The Baths of Uriage
Thermal waters can be very helpful for our well-being and beauty. We spent three days at the marvellous Baths of Uriage, a magic and unforgettable place, a few kilometres from Grenoble, France.
But let´s call on our consultant, the Dermatologist Magda Belmontesi: “A thermal or mineral water is a natural spring water considered therapeutic thanks to its composition.
Its utilization in France is subjected to the ministerial authorization and technical evaluation of the Academy of Medicine about its therapeutic application.
Most thermal waters used in Dermatology are not very mineralized and hypotonic. Today only the Uriage Thermal Water is acknowledged as naturally isotonic and very rich in mineral salts and trace elements. These two characteristics confer the Uriage Thermal Water particularly interesting properties just in dermatologic disciplines.”
Uriage Thermal Water:
The Uriage Water, after having covered a long distance in the mineral dephts of the French Alps through multiple layers of sand and crystalline rocks, reaches Uriage, where it gushes out at a depth of 80 metres, sheltered from the air and any kind of pollution.
Its chemical and physical characteristics are precise and constant: flow of 400,000 litres per day, sulphurous sodic chlorinated water, pH = 6.77 at a temperature of 20°C, temperature at the source of 27.8°C, bacteriological purity and stable chemical composition.
The Uriage Thermal Water is particularly concentrated and rich in trace elements and mineral salts, with a dry residue of 11,000 mg/l.
Its main richness is represented by a high concentration of Na++, Ca++ and Cl- ions, as well as trace elements, that is Cu++, Zn++, Si+ and Mn. Thanks to its content of vegetable sulphur this water can be quickly assimilated by our body.
Furthermore, the Uriage Thermal Water is naturally isotonic.
It is useful to dwell upon the fact that an isotonic solution allows to settle a pressure balance, called «osmotic pressure», between this solution and the cells that come into contact with it. For this reason, the referent for isotonicity is the blood plasma, where red blood cells are present. Consequently, an isotonic water respects thoroughly the integrity of the cells, without modifying neither their dimension nor their form. The Uriage Thermal Water has an osmolarity (i.e. concentration of particles) of 275mosm/l, comparable to that of the blood plasma (between 280 and 300mosm/l).
CHARACTERISTICS
