Carolina Kostner: skating star

Carolina Kostner represents the second “champion” of our reportages on the way sports and show-business personalities live their beauty. Carolina is very young, but she is already a champion in every respect. Our figure skating star, who is now twenty-one, has been skating since the age of four. She likes Roger Federer very much, “he looks like an extremely pleasant person and is great, I`d like to meet Valentino Rossi, but the athlete I admire most is my cousin Isolde: she is a living legend!”.

The Federghiaccio (Italian Ice Sports Federation) considers Carolina its cutting edge. At the last 2006 Olympic Games held in Turin she was appointed as testimonial by the CONI (Italian National Olympic Committee) to represent Italy and all its athletes as standard-bearer by taking the baton just from her cousin Isolde, who was standard-bearer in the last 2002 Olympics held in Salt Lake City.

Carolina is the daughter of Erwin Kostner, who was one of the greatest defenders of the Italian ice hockey (he played in 212 games for the national team between 1976 and 1992) and today is Technical Manager for the National Under 18 team, as well as Coach of an important Swiss team. Carolina`s mother, a housewife, in her youth was a figure skater, too. Since the age of 14 Carolina has been living in Germany at the Olympic Training Centre in Oberstdorf, under the strict German coach Michael Huth.

However, Turin is the town that appointed her as testimonial to tell the whole world about the efficiency and the beauty of the sport facilities (ice rink, etc.) realized for the recent Olympic Games 2006: she is spokesperson for TOP (Turin Olympic Park).

AN IMPORTANT PROJECT

Carolina is a testimonial for the Lancia Ice project and the Italian fashion designer Roberto Cavalli suitably created - for the first time within the ambit of sport - the competition clothing for this important Olympic event, supporting her since then in every competition. Silvia Damiani creates for her the beautiful jewelry she wears.

To protect herself from the cold and for her beauty she relies on Biotherm products.

Carolina is also testimonial and main character in the television advertising campaign of the trade mark Grissin Bon (bakery products) and tesimonial for Asics/Onitsuka Tiger.

From October 2008 she will play the role of an aspiring WINX fairy in the Musical on Ice “Winx on Ice”.

Furthermore, Kostner is testimonial, together with all CONI`s Olympic and Paralympic athletes of the Social Project “Un Sogno per il Gaslini” (A dream for Gaslini) for the realization of a large reception facility adjacent to the Gaslini Hospital in Genua, destined to host young convalescing patients by putting at their disposal didactic spaces, rehabilitation centres and play areas (further information under www.unsognoperilgaslini.com). She belongs to the Sports Team of the Fiamme Azzurre. With a strong will and making sacrifices in 2003 she won a bronze medal at the World Junior Figure Skating Championships in Ostrava. In March 2005 Carolina obtained a bronze medal at the World Championships in Moscow becoming a legend of figure skating, a result that Italy had been pursuing for 27 years since Susan Driano`s bronze in Goteborg. In January 2006 she obtained a bronze at the European Figure Skating Championships in Lyon. In January 2007 she achieved her goal of bringing to Italy a title never won before by an Italian athlete, a gold medal at the European Championships in Warsaw. In December 2007 she carried out another memorable task for the Italian figure skating as she obtained a bronze medal at the Grand Prix Final in Turin: no Italian athlete had even qualified before for this competition. In January 2008 she became a legend of the international figure skating by winning two times in a row a gold medal at the European Championships in Zagreb and in March 2008 a silver medal at the World Championships in Goteborg.
