It’s a reality. And it is more and more evident: the presently available new technologies offer a range of not very invasive and more effective treatments, not only for face but also for body imperfections: unwanted hairs, dark spots, broken capillaries on lower limbs, dehydrated and yellowish skin with altered brightness, acne lesions in active phase, anti-aesthetic whiteheads and blackheads, pimples (papules and pustules), permanent scars deriving from late acne or caused by trauma and surgery, stretch marks.
The treatment of these skin imperfections or disease with intense pulsed light (IPL) and laser has been known for some time now , but the innovation level achieved by the current technology (Palomar and Curelight) offers excellent results on body areas and pathologies considered up to now ‘critical’.
In fact, the pulsed light works according to the principle of selective photothermolysis, as it only hits the chromatic mark set up by the operator without affecting the surrounding skin. Here is its mechanism of action: the light turns into heat raising the temperature and causing a slight lesion controlled by the superior layer of the dermis, without causing any damage to the skin. The healing process determines the neoformation of collagen, thus improving the general visual aspect of the skin, its weft and brightness by working on the imperfections typical of aging skin.
A BRAND NEW LASER
StarLux (Palomar) offers a multipurpose platform compatible with the use of both laser and pulsed-light maniples with extremely specific and very different functions, while E-Clear (Curelight) by combining Blue Light and infrareds (IR) can carry out treatments of phototherapy as well as of photodynamics.
Intervention possibilities:
1. Permanent epilation also of thin and pale hears, notoriously not very responding to high-tech treatments.
2. Treatment of not very defined dark spots (freckles).
It is possible to intervene both on epilation and lentigos with the pulsed light of StarLux Yellow thanks to its high ability to work on melanin.
3. Treatment in nearly half the time, both for epilation and photorejuvenation of wide areas like arms, legs and torso. The particular rapidity of execution is due to the speed of the impulses (that are very close) and to the large maniples.
4. Good performances on erythrosis, couperose, angiomas and rosacea can be achieved with the StarLux Green pulsed-light maniple thanks to the high sensitivity to work on the vascular component of skin aging. The selection of the chromatic component eliminates the damaging effects, thus allowing to achieve high energies without the risk of side effects.
5. The IPL StarLux Violet maniple allows the acne specific treatment on wide areas (back, shoulders and décolleté). It works also on acne pathologies that need systemic drugs when topical creams are not very comfortable to be applied on wide surfaces or hardly reachable areas. The special wavelength of StarLux Violet works by inhibiting the proliferation of the bacterium Propionebacterium Acnes, responsible for inflammatory acne pathologies.
6. The StarLux 1540 fractional laser allows the treatment of old stretch marks (white atrophical), scars (also the most ‘difficult’ ones, like deep ‘awl-shaped’ acne scars, that hardly improve though the most sophisticated surgery techniques), recent surgery scars, wrinkles, lentigos and melasma.
It is endowed with two maniples: the one of 1 cm for deep treatments, the other of 1.5 cm able to deliver a larger number of heat ‘microcones’, useful for more superficial treatments. The results are excellent and visible after only 2 sessions. Thanks to the scarce trauma caused by this treatment (slight flushing and edema on the area 48 hours at the longest), it is possible to treat also ‘sensitive’ areas easily exposed to side effects like the back of the hands, breast, hips, limbs, décolleté and neck.
7. The last (but not the least) treatment is that with StarLux1064 laser on the largest and darkest broken capillaries of the different body regions, especially of the lower limbs. Though the efficacy and versatility of sclerotherapy for this problem remains indisputable, the laser treatment allows to face ‘critical’ areas such as
– broken capillaries of the ankle, especially if in submalleolar position,
– patients allergic to sclerosing drugs, who take medicines incompatible to the concomitant use of sclerosing substances and breast feeding women, offering the possibility to treat them by ensuring the utmost level of safety,
– ‘needle phobic’ patients
– very thin broken capillaries, difficult to be treated with needles.
– matting areas (violaceous spots with broken capillaries, hardly
visible to the naked eye)
The laser treatment is not totally painless (as we often think) but this particular maniple, though achieving high energies, is very well tolerated contrarily to other laser instruments with the same wavelength.
EFFECTS OF INFRAREDS
Recently there has been a lot of talk about the beneficial effects of Infrareds (IR) on microcirculation and of their ability to develop nitric acid, useful for accelerating skin repair and regeneration processes and on ulcers, but also after mini-invasive treatments like fractional laser and in the photorejuvenation.
E-Clear, able to deliver IR besides Blue Light, provides this technology with a variety of functions:
– treatment of acne (face and body) in active phase with contemporaneous
efficacy on lesions and prevention of scars
– photodynamic therapy of advanced photoaging with aesthetic benefits but healthy also in case of pretumoral and tumoral lesions,
– phototherapy complementary to surgical treatments, peeling, laser and Ipl, for a quicker recovery as well as for a stronger effect of the treatment.
